10 of the best hentai games on Steam, according to its users

Do you like anime? Of course you do, and hentai too. And thankfully, over the course of the last few years, Steam has made it easier than ever to track down the sort of disgusting filth you enjoy engaging with during your private time of an evening. All you need to do is click on the ol’ “hentai” tag and go nuts. So to speak.

Or at least, that’s the theory, anyway. What you need to bear in mind is that Steam tags are primarily applied by the community, and as such you sometimes get some peculiar inclusions in a particular category. For example, supposedly the lowest-rated “hentai” game on Steam is actually FlatOut 3: Chaos & Destruction, which I suspect would only engorge one’s genitals under very specific circumstances even if it wasn’t rated “Overwhelmingly Negative”.

So what are the ten best hentai games on Steam according to its users, as of September 20, 2021? Let’s take a look — and to keep things interesting, where multiple entries in a series occupy some of the top spots, we’ll count those as just one item.

10: Highway Blossoms (96% positive reviews)

Best hentai games: Highway Blossoms

This English-first yuri kinetic novel was rather well-regarded in its all-ages format, and its free 18+ DLC, which adds two erotic scenes towards the end of the game, has been positively received too; players have praised the rather intimate, sweet nature of these scenes which is thoroughly in keeping with the rest of the story — and some even say that these scenes help you to understand some of the things that have come before.

If you’re not familiar with Highway Blossoms, it’s a short (about 6 hours) road trip visual novel about a girl mourning the passing of her grandfather — and how she gets swept along in a modern-day “gold rush” after a fateful encounter with a hitchhiker. Whether or not you’d describe it as one of the “best hentai games” is perhaps a matter of debate, given that its focus is very much on the narrative rather than the sex — but regardless, it’s a good ‘un.

9: Nekopara (96% positive reviews)

Best hentai games: Nekopara

The more recent Nekopara games are actually higher up the rankings, but since this is the first appearance of Sayori’s classic catgirl series, this is where it goes in our rankings. And while Nekopara was initially released only in its all-ages format on Steam, you can now grab the 18+ DLC for it, too — though note said DLC is actually more pricey than the base game at this point!

Nekopara tells the tale of Kashou, a young baker who is supported in his daily life by his family’s pet catgirls. Over the course of multiple volumes, we learn a great deal about all these characters, and it’s clear that Sayori considers all of the ensemble cast to be much more than just catgirl fetish bait. They’re delightful, loveable characters in their own right, and each volume has its own distinct and surprisingly emotional stories to tell.

Plus, if you choose to experience the games with the 18+ content intact, the erotic scenes are exceedingly hot — Sayori knows how to do an amazing H-scene. Truly some of the best hentai games out there.

8: HuniePop (96% positive reviews)

Best hentai games: HuniePop

Ryan Koons’ classic puzzler from 2015 is still riding high in the rankings with good reason: it’s a fantastic game that presents some genuinely interesting twists on the “match-3” puzzle formula and combines it with some distinctively abrasive humour, likeable characters and an enjoyable story.

Originally developed as a sort of “protest” against the rising tide of quasi-Puritanical hand-wringing over sexualised content in video games, Koons ultimately developed HuniePop into something far more exciting and special than anyone ever expected. Its sequel is well worth your time and attention, too; they’re proof that when they put their minds to it, western developers are absolutely capable of making some of the best hentai games.

7: Mirror (96% positive reviews)

Best hentai games: Mirror

While the cynical might argue this game has sold (and reviewed) so well primarily due to its low cost, if you trawl through the tedious meme-filled reviews on its Steam page you’ll see that a fair few people do genuinely like what this game has to offer: a combination of puzzle game and erotic scenes in which you can inflict “pleasure” or “pain”, with the choices you make in this regard affecting how the story continues.

Attractive visuals, decent voice acting and a good soundtrack make this worth checking out, so long as you feel you can deal with the nature of the erotic content. Plus there’s an optional DLC that consists of cosplay photos of the game’s characters. Is it one of the best hentai games? Best judge that for yourself; for £1.69 it’s not exactly a big risk to find out.

6: Kindred Spirits on the Roof (97% positive reviews)

Best hentai games: Kindred Spirits on the Roof

This yuri visual novel is noteworthy for being a significant milestone in adult gaming: it was the first adult visual novel to be brought to Steam completely intact, with no cut content. While Steam has flip-flopped a great deal on what it supposedly will and won’t allow in this regard ever since, the fact this game remains on the store is significant: it opened the doors for other adult game makers to publish their work on Valve’s storefront.

Like Highway Blossoms, I’d perhaps hesitate to describe this as one of the “best hentai games” because the emphasis is on its story rather than the sex, but it’s a very well-regarded visual novel in its own right, so definitely worth spending some time with regardless.

5: The Ditzy Demons Are In Love With Me (97% positive reviews)

Best hentai games: The Ditzy Demons are in Love with Me!

This visual novel is probably more along the lines of what most people think of when you talk about the “best hentai games” — its setup is pure eroge. Main character Ren’s virginity is endangered when he discovers his childhood friend is actually a succubus — one who is embarrassed at having no sexual experience. And from there, he finds himself becoming the caretaker of a dormitory full of useless demons. Madcap antics, as you might expect, ensue.

This game is noteworthy for eroge fans because it features art by Nekopara’s Sayori; she truly has created some absolutely beautiful demon girls for this game, so go enjoy some sexy fun times with them now — what are you waiting for?

4: Miracle Snack Shop (97% positive reviews)

Best hentai games: Miracle Snack Shop

Another game that some might hesitate in describing as one of the “best hentai games” due to its relatively tame erotic content, Miracle Snack Shop was nonetheless a pleasant surprise for a number of Steam users when it released in late 2018. Offering a blend of management and dating sim action, Miracle Snack shop tasks you with managing a Korean snack shop while contending with the attentions of an icy queen from another world.

If you enjoy stuff like the highly entertaining (and super cute) Food Girls, this is one you should give a look, for sure.

3: Sabbat of the Witch (98% positive reviews)

Best hentai games: Sabbat of the Witch

This one is another example of what you tend to expect when looking for the best hentai games out there; it’s another visual novel with the kind of setup you only get in eroge. It seems that the young witch Ayachi Nene has discovered an unfortunate side-effect to the witch contract she involved herself in: unpredictable, random and completely involuntary sexual arousal. What is a young girl to do?

With a colourful cast of characters, absolutely lovely art and a story that offers a lot more depth than that initial description might suggest, Sabbat of the Witch is definitely a visual novel worth spending some time with — especially if you like super-cute witches. And who doesn’t like super-cute witches? Just make sure you nab the free 18+ DLC for the full experience.

2: Helltaker (98% positive reviews)

Best hentai games: Helltaker

Helltaker was a big hit back in 2020 primarily for its wonderful artwork and creative take on the demons of legend — who, it turns out, are all rather snappy dressers. Its gameplay is decidedly average, though — and the game’s creator makes no secret of that fact — so it’s a bit of a chore to play through, particularly if you find block-pushing puzzlers a bit tedious. The last boss is kind of bullshit, too.

Also, if you come into this one expecting one of the best hentai games, you’re going to be disappointed. The most you get from this is a few suggestive comments. That said, there is a lot of absolutely depraved fanart of this game out there, so if we define “best hentai game” as “game that has produced the most hentai”, Helltaker is hard to rival.

1: Aventura Copilului Albastru si Urât (99% positive reviews)

Best hentai games: The Ugly Blue Child

This Romanian visual novel is, according to Google Translate, a short-lived 30 minute adventure in which you follow the Blue and Ugly Child in a bizarre world, in the evening. The premise is, again according to Google Translate, that on “a quiet afternoon, suddenly an explosion of cocks destroyed the world”. If that isn’t enough to get you interested, I don’t know what is.

Unfortunately, the game is entirely in Romanian with no English translation, so if you haven’t been keeping up on your Duolingo of late, maybe now’s the time to pick it up again. As for whether or not it’s the very pinnacle of the best hentai games out there… your guess is as good as ours.
