The Pixel Remasters aim to take the first six games and update their visuals for modern hardware. Unlike previous ports, these releases are staying faithful to the originals. Unfortunately, this means that any extra content and improvements will not be available — the store page for all three games states that “Features and/or content may differ from previously rereleased versions of the game”.
It’s an odd decision by Square Enix. This was the perfect chance to make definitive modern releases for each game, but they’ve instead decided not to. While it’s not as bad as some of the company’s previous efforts (aside from the awful font), it’s disappointing to see them mess things up again.
