After 18 years, a brand new Virtua Fighter is on the way

It’s been 18 years since the arcade release of Virtua Fighter 5, marking the last completely new release in SEGA’s fighting game franchise. But now after many updated versions of 5, a brand new title is finally on the way.

Teased during The Game Awards 2024, this new Virtua Fighter is bringing a new look to series mascot Akira. The brief teaser trailer shows off his now look, with Akira now sporting mostly black attire with a damaged trilby.

Not much was actually shown off, though a brief gameplay clip confirms that Sarah Bryant will also return — like Akira, she’s appeared in every main Virtua Fighter game.

SEGA held their own VF Direct 2024 the day after The Game Awards 2024, going over the recently revealed Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Pre-orders for the PC version are available now on Steam, along with an open beta running until December 17, 2024.

In addition, the 2.0 update for Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown has also released, likely containing the character changes that will also appear in Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
