Animal Crossing: New Horizons to get Ver.3.0 update, Switch 2 Edition January 2026

It’s been a long time since Animal Crossing: New Horizons has received any major updates, but Nintendo has just announced that it’ll be getting some new free content alongside a paid Switch 2 Edition early next year.

On January 15, 2026 the Switch 2 Edition of Animal Crossing: New Horizons will launch. Priced at £54.99 with a £4.19 upgrade pack for owners of the Switch version, it comes with a handful of new features. As you’d expect, it features higher resolution support (though still capped at 30fps), mouse controls for decorating and designs, and the ability to show your face via a USB camera. Multiplayer also sees an increased player cap from 8 to 12, though presumably each player still has to slowly connect one by one.

On the same day, the Switch version will also get an update to Ver.3.0. This will add the Resort Hotel, letting you customise rooms for visitors and unlock new rewards. Slumber Islands will also let you make custom islands free from the restrictions of regular gameplay, including placing villagers and trees.

This update brings some collaboration content as well. On the Nintendo side, there are Zelda and Splatoon themed items and villagers, unlocked by scanning Amiibo from those series. LEGO makes an appearance too, adding themed housing items and clothing.
