Atlus release 4 new videos for Persona Q Shadow of the Labyrinth

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth is almost upon us, releasing next week in both Europe and North America, and Atlus hopes that these videos prepare you for starting your adventure.

There are four videos covering the battle system, map drawing, FOEs and a Q&A hosted by Atlus PR Manager John Hardin, who you may recognise from some interviews with the cast and other Shin Megami Tensei related videos.

First up is the Q&A which informs us on some of the differences in Q that aren’t in other Persona titles. I won’t say everything here as the video itself is worth watching, but John confirms that Q can be enjoyed without having played the others as it’s a self-contained story (although it definitely helps to have prior knowledge), the calendar system isn’t present, there are five difficulty options, Persona fusion, animated cutscenes, no multiplayer and more. And yes, Mara is back!

The gameplay is more like Etrian Odyssey rather than Persona, and so those who’ve never played an EO game may be in for a surprise! My first experience with EO was with Untold, which I reviewed earlier this year, and it’s still a turn-based game that Persona fans should adapt too fairly easily. The battle video below shows off a little gameplay and how you’ll be able to control all your party members.

The next two videos are new to Persona and are gameplay mechanics from the EO games, including FOEs and map drawing. Continuing with the battle theme we’ll begin with FOEs, which are immensely powerful optional enemies. As the video below states, you may be best off avoiding them or risk having your entire party quickly wiped out.

Last up is map drawing. It’s exactly what it sounds like – you draw a map on the 3DS’ lower screen as it doesn’t fill itself in, and this is useful to confirm where you’ve already explored. You can leave lines out to indicate a turning that you haven’t taken yet, or you can draw the lines in fully to show that you’ve completely explored the area.

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth releases in Europe next week on the 28th, and in North America on the 25th. I’m unbelievably excited for it but fortunately I’ll have Persona 4 Arena: Ultra Ultimax Suplex Hold to keep me company until then.

If you want to get Persona Q for the best price – PLUS get some nice extra goodlies, like a Chie Badge Set and Teddie Double Keyring – then you can get them RIGHT HERE!
