In an odd turn of events, Konami has announced that the previously cancelled F2P mobile title Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls will be relaunching for Apple Arcade — though it has no release date at this time.
The original release of Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls was only available in Canada a few years back, but was quickly pulled before being able to launch worldwide.
Most of the game seems to have remained intact for the Apple Arcade version, letting you play as many characters from the franchise, including Alucard, Simon Belmont, Charlotte, Shanoa and Maria.
However, Apple Arcade’s rules mean that some changes will have been made to Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls — namely its monetisation. Microtransactions aren’t allowed via the service, so it remains to be seen how the game has been rebalanced to accommodate for this.
It’s been more than a decade since the last mainline Castlevania release (Order of Ecclesia on the DS), so the announcement of a mobile-only spin-off game didn’t exactly go down well with the fanbase. At the very least, it does mean that Konami are still paying attention to the franchise, which could lead to more ports — or even a new main title — in the future.
