Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 DLC 1 Review (PS4)

I reviewed Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 when it released last year and adored it, so a reason to return to it is more than welcome! There may not be a lot of content in the first DLC pack but the new Parallel Quests are among the best in the game.

Other than the 3 new added Parallel Quests are 2 new characters, Super Saiyan Cabba and Frost of the Frieza Race, who were both introduced in Dragon Ball Super. Other new content includes a new master, 2 outfits, 2 emotes, 5 attacks and 5 Super Souls, so the best and bulk of the content is the characters and quests. Like Cabba and Frost, the quests focus on Universe 6 – you may remember that Beerus mentioned other universes exist – and battles to prove that you, Goku and Vegeta are amongst the strongest warriors in any universe.

xenoverse DLC 1 Review

The new Parallel Quests are among the best in the game.

The last of the 3 new missions might be the toughest one in the game as you fight the likes of Super Saiyan God Goku and Vegeta – they’re each quite lengthy missions and I found myself failing them when I hadn’t prepared enough items. Your fellow AI tend to fall much faster than you too which might leave you alone for a couple of fights – but you know all of this, you’ve played the game! Probably! As someone who’s yet to watch Super, it’s interesting to see how something Beerus said in Battle of Gods has taken on a life of its own with a world of new friends and enemies – it’s not as if anyone in Goku’s own universe is able to topple him now, after all.

Cabba and Frost will interest those who are already fans of the characters more so than those who are being introduced to them now, and they’re not making the cut on my main teams although I enjoy their personalities — Frost is the opponent that Goku would’ve loved Frieza to have been. The English dub cast were brought back in to record new lines and hearing Goku and Vegeta’s banter never gets old but otherwise there isn’t anything particularly new regarding audio and visuals — to be fair, the game already looks great.

Xenoverse 2 DLC 1 review 3

It’s a good start to the season pass.

If you’re going to buy DLC for Xenoverse 2, you’re likely best off going straight to the season pass. If the rest of the content is similar to this pack then you’ll have a good handful of challenging missions to play through with your friends, alongside new characters and other bits, but for £6.49 per pack it individually feels a little barebones. Xenoverse 2 is a simplistic fighter so new characters make more of an impact if you already like them, as otherwise they don’t tend to do anything that feels fresh compared to the already large roster. If you’re a big Dragon Ball fan then you’re probably already looking at buying DLC for Xenoverse 2, and if so then you should grab the season pass and enjoy the content as it releases. It’s a good start to the season pass, though not much of a game changer on its own.

Spread the love!
