Initially revealed alongside Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, Square Enix has shown off the first gameplay clips of Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake.

Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake enhances the original two NES Dragon Quests with revamped visuals and improved cutscenes.

Dragon Quest 3 is actually the first game chronologically in the trilogy, so it makes sense that it was remade first (it’s also noticeably longer). However, playing all three games in either order is fine two — the originals weren’t in chronological order after all.

Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake releases for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, PS5, and PC during 2025.
