English Phantasy Star Online 2 on its way
Yes, that’s right! English Phantasy Star Online 2 is on its way but… er…. not the version you’d expect. Turns out Asiasoft Online have a fully localised version in the works – which will be entering Beta on the 10th of April. The news comes from their recently set-up Facebook page here.
As many of you already know I’ve been dying for a localised version of this to come out, for what seems like an eternity. I spent some time with the part-localised version currently ongoing in Japan about a year ago, and I really enjoyed it – but nothing beats a full translation for convenience’s sake.
This version is meant to service Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines – and the question remains, will there be any regional restrictions? Oddly, the Facebook page Admin is oddly evasive on this specific point. Rather than giving an explicit ‘yes or no’ – choosing only to reiterate the regions it’s supposed to be played in.
That suggests to me that they can’t say ‘No’ because it would be a lie – and they can’t say ‘Yes’ because that would be against policy – and Sega would probably go mental. Clutching at straws maybe – but my money’s on this version being open season for Western gamers.
*crosses fingers*
