Final Fantasy VII Remake to be ‘multi-part’

Square Enix has announced that the highly anticipated remake of Final Fantasy VII, which is revealed to be an action RPG, will also be episodic.

Honestly, it’s hard to not be a little disappointed by this news but other games such as Resident Evil: Revelations 2 were episodic and fantastic, so I’m still hoping for the best. I’d prefer it to have been a whole experience, but maybe they’re making it episodic to mimic changing discs on the PS1?

The press release itself reads: “Final Fantasy VII Remake will be told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience,” which, uh, isn’t the most direct of explanations. If Square Enix feel it will be better this way, then I fully expect it to be because I’m super excited for it.

Hopefully it remains a full remake and not an updated version of the most important sections of Final Fantasy VII. Square Enix definitely have some explaining to do, even if it’s just to be clear on what they wish to achieve with this remake. I’m interested in arguments for and against this, so please comment below!

Update: Square Enix has confirmed that it’ll be ‘episodic’ so that they can do the original justice, and so that no content will be cut. Apparently this would be impossible with one, full release and so if this is what they feel is best and delivers the best version of the game in the end, then I’m all for it, especially as their reasoning is sound.

Spread the love!
