It looks like the “Sam Raimi” theory about Yoshi-P’s Spider-Man hint t-shirt was correct. The Final Fantasy XIV Samurai has now been confirmed to be the Stormblood expansion’s second new job after the red mage, being confirmed just now by Square Enix at the game’s Fan Festival in Frankfurt, Germany.
The above video from the event showcases the Samurai in action, and we have to admit it’s looking pretty cool. The Samurai job looks like it has a lot of cool animations, including some pretty dope attacks, and even an ice cold katana-cleaning one (though without there looking to be any blood). It appears a lot of work has gone into making sure the Samurai looks, feels, and plays distinctively to the other jobs.
It’s a good job (job — ha!) that the Samurai does look as distinctive as it does. It’s a melee DPS job, which isn’t exactly an area of the game that was wanting. It would have been easy to make it a job that would have been overlooked, but it looks like it will bring its own freshness to the table. And really, that’s what an expansion is all about. Here’s the slide that details what will make the Samurai stand out:
As you might expect the Samurai will use a katana as its weapon of choice, and the job’s starting level is 50.
Final Fantasy XIV’s Stormblood expansion launches 20th June 2017 on PlayStation 4 and PC. Mark it on your calendar!
