Fresh from Japan: Ghost in the Shell FPS Online game due 2014!

There’s been a lot of talk about the “Ghost in the Shell” series recently, with Kodansha granting online game giant Nexon the rights to make games for “Ghost in the Shell STAND ALONE COMPLEX”, “Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. 2nd GIG” and “Ghost in the Shell STAND ALONE COMPLEX Solid State Society”.

Nexon have now announced that they are aiming to release the first Ghost in the Shell online game for 2014. Unsurprisingly from Nexon, it’s going to be an MMO – but not in the style you’d think – this one is going to be a ‘Hacking FPS’ which opens up some interesting possibilities and questions. It’s being developed by Neople – the team behind the hugely enjoyable Dungeon Fighter Online.

Core concepts in this FPS, according to Nexon will be ‘Hacking’ ‘Tachikoma’ and ‘Cybernetic enhancements’.You can chose between three different Cyborg styles and customise them to your liking.

You’re also given the opportunity to play as the series main characters if you so wish – though we’re not sure we’re looking forward to servers populated with thousands of Major Kusanagis! Tashikoma will be in the game and will act as player assist characters, though they will move independently.

There is a brand new Ghost in the Shell anime series, which has recently been announced – this series will focus on Major Kusanagi’s past rather than being a sequel to the S.A.C canon. It will also focus on how the Stand Alone Complex team first came together – with leanings towards the more ‘human’ side of the story.

We’re big fans of GitS here, so we’ll update you on that news as it comes in.

Spread the love!
