Hand-drawn JRPG Astria Ascending announced

Artisan Studios revealed their 2D JRPG Astria Ascending during the recent ID@Xbox showcase.

Coming to PlayStation 4 and 5, Switch, Xbox One and Series X|S, and PC via Steam in 2021 and published by Dear Villagers, Astria Ascending boasts a lot of talent from the Japanese gaming industry.

With a soundtrack by Final Fantasy XII composer Hitoshi Sakimoto and a story written by Kazushige Nojima, the main scenario writer behind many other Final Fantasy titles, there’s certainly a lot to be excited for.

The reveal trailer features gameplay that looks similar to Artisan Studios’ previous release, Super Neptunia RPG. Here’s hoping the developer has improved upon that style of gameplay, considering Nep RPG’s mixed reception from fans of the Neptunia series.

Astria Ascending overview via Artisan Studios:

In a world where chaos looms, players take control of the Demigods – a motley crew of eight heroes charged with the fate of the world. Each character has their own story, explored across five cities, twenty-five dungeons and thirty hours of gameplay up to fifty for 100% of completion. Along with the finely tuned turn-based combat, players can try out a range of side quests and mini-games, including an original fantasy-themed token game.
