Hideo Kojima talks Metal Gear Solid V’s short length
So I’ve been wondering about a couple of things today after reading this article – namely Titanfall’s lack of single player and Metal Gear Solid V’s short length. To be fair, I’m not sure I’m 100% sold on Titanfall, but I’m always curious to play whatever Hideo Kojima puts out.
Turns out Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has been reviewed pretty highly by Famitsu – 10, 9, 10, 9 – (not that that’s any solid indication of quality – they game Battlefield the same score) which is heartening. Interestingly, Kojima also took to twitter a week ago to address the rumoured shortness in length.
I’ll let this picture fill you in on the details of that one.
I’m kind of torn on this one. Titanfall’s lack of single players is a deal-breaker for me. I’m not a big fan of Call of Duty, I’m even less of a fan of it’s multiplayer. I was kinda curious to know what Titanfall’s lore was going to be like though – but at the end of the day, the game is what it is. Respawn took the decisions they took (presumably for the very reasons in that article) and, well, fair play to them.
Metal Gear Solid V’s rumoured length doesn’t really concern me that much actually – I’m happy to take the experience at face value.
What does irk me though, is when developers are put in a position that they have to come out and defend themselves – or rather defend their design decisions in this way. They’ve bust a gut trying to make something they think people will enjoy, and then are somehow made to feel accountable to the ravenous wolves waiting on the periphery to tear them apart – because the lead characters trousers are too black – or the main villain’s haircut is to short…
Anyway, five minute rant over. I’m going for a beer and then I’m going to lie down and think up some fan fiction about Dreamcast girl from Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax.
