Katawa Shoujo coming to Steam, Itch August 2024

After 12 years, Four Leaf Studios is bringing its free visual novel Katawa Shoujo to Steam and Itch on August 15, 2024.

Katawa Shoujo takes place in Yamaku High School, a fictional school for children dealing with disabilities. You play as Hisao Nakai, who attends the school after learning he has a defective heart (during a love confession no less.)

The general subject matter and dev team’s origins (Four Leaf Studios being a reference to 4Chan) could have lead to a disastrous final product, but despite everything Katawa Shoujo managed to be a generally tasteful visual novel.

Steam users will need to download an adult content patch on Itch to get the full game, while the version via Itch is unedited.

While you could wait for these releases on new storefronts, Katawa Shoujo is still available to download DRM-free via the official website — or via JAST if you prefer.
