Key Dub Cast Members Return for New Fruits Basket Anime
So an upcoming new Fruits Basket anime is finally giving the series the FMA Brotherhood treatment and following the manga storyline, which is very exciting! As if that wasn’t enough nostalgia alone, a bunch of the primary cast are reprising their roles in the English dub too!
Fans of the previous anime in English will be pleased to learn that Laura Bailey, Eric Vale, Jerry Jewell, and John Burgmeier are returning in their roles as principle characters Tohru, Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure in a dub directed by Caitlin Glass.
For those not in the know, here’s how manga publisher Yen Press summarised the story of the series:
After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out…into a tent! Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac!
Watching Fruits Basket back in the day feels like long gone, more innocent time now, and I’m super excited to see more of the series while preserving some of the excellent English dub cast members from way back when. With some characters who never made it into the first series due to make an appearance this time around, the new Fruits Basket anime will offer an interesting mix of old and new.
FUNimation will be screening the first two episodes of the new Fruits Basket anime in cinemas in March, which sounds like a great opportunity to get a feel for the new series. Here’s hoping we might see a similar thing in the UK!
