Kiki KaiKai: Kuro Mantle no Naza announced for Switch

Publisher Taito and developer Natsume Atari have announced a sequel to the SNES game KiKi KaiKai: Naza no Kuro Mantle, titled Kiki KaiKai: Kuro Mantle no Naza. Now say that three times fast.
The original game, which in the West was named Pocky & Rocky, was a side-scrolling arcade-y shooter, released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1992. This sequel is being produced by a team within Natsume Atari known as Tengo Project, consisting of staff who created the original game.
The new Kiki KaiKai features updated graphics (though it maintains a retro 16-bit style) and several new elements. The developers are clear that it’s a sequel, not a remake, although as this is such a retro title that’s now being updated for Switch owners, I’m not sure it particularly matters either way.
