Hello everyone! It’s a public holiday over here in the UK, so it’s likely to be a bit quiet here on Rice Digital for a few days — with that in mind I wanted to take a moment to scrawl you all a quick note.
First up, I’d like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has made me feel so welcome since I started working on Rice Digital in January of 2021. It’s a genuine pleasure to work on the site, and I’m looking forward to many more happy and productive months to come!
There are some exciting things going on behind the scenes that I can’t talk about just yet, but be sure to keep an eye on Rice Digital and our social media for more information on that very soon — I can’t wait to talk more about this new project, because it ties in with one of my real passions when it comes to gaming.
I hope you’ve been enjoying our approach to daily content here on Rice Digital so far. We’ve been focusing on longer-form features because that’s a key way that we can distinguish ourselves from the myriad news blogs out there — and it provides both me and our excellent team of writers the opportunity to express themselves about their particular areas of interest and knowledge.
That’s not to say we’re not covering any news, of course; our ever-reliable newshound Isaac is doing an amazing job picking out some of the most interesting stories of relevance to the Rice Digital audience each and every day, so be sure to stop by the News section each day to stay up to date with the latest happenings in video games, anime and manga.
The weekly columns on Waifu Wednesday, Hump Day Husbandos, The History of Lewd and The Returner have been a big hit so far — especially The History of Lewd, ya bunch of perverts — so you can expect some more of those in the future. If there’s any particular topic you’d like to see covered on a regular basis here on Rice Digital, please do let us know.
We also want to make a point of providing you with helpful guides to the games and visual novels we cover. We’ve already got a nice library on the go here, as well as full, multi-part guides for Gal*Gun Returns and Root Film for you to enjoy. Visual novels and more niche-interest games tend not to get a lot of useful guides outside of community sites and wikis and it can sometimes be tricky to track down the exact information you want and need, so we want to do our bit to plug that gap. Again, if there’s a guide you want to see on Rice Digital, let us know!
We’re also still in a somewhat “experimental” phase with the Rice Digital YouTube channel right now, so please be sure to let us know what you’d like to see more of — whether it’s gameplay videos, Let’s Plays, audio/video versions of articles from the site or just a nice mix of different things. We know that sticking a video on in the background while you do something else is quite a common way for people to enjoy stuff online, so if there’s anything in particular you want to see in that regard, just let us know.
And there’s one really key way you can help us out besides telling us what you want, what you really really want: sharing it! If you read something you enjoy on the site or watch a video that you particularly like on YouTube, please take a moment to share it with your friends, whether that’s via social media or more private means. Every pair of eyes we get on our work helps us understand you as the audience a bit better — and that in turn means we can provide you with more of what you want. Everyone wins!
Anyway. My wife is firing up the barbecue and we’ve got some friends coming over to celebrate the easing of lockdown restrictions here in the UK, so I’ll leave that there for now. I hope you all have a calm, peaceful, restful long weekend — with plenty of chocolate if you happen to be celebrating Easter in that manner — and we’ll see you again in the week. Be sure to rock out to these awesome video game music DJ sets if you haven’t already — I certainly will be!
Thanks for reading, loveyoubye!
