Live A Live HD-2D remake revealed

Square Enix and Nintendo have announced that Super Famicom RPG Live A Live will be coming to the Switch via a HD-2D remake on July 22, 2022.

Live A Live features seven heroes across different time periods, with each of their stories being completable in any order. These range from the adventures of a young tribesman during the prehistoric era, to a space adventure with a newly built robot.

The HD-2D visual style should be familiar to those that have played Octopath Traveller (a game that was likely inspired in part by Live A Live), with the soundtrack being remastered by original composer Yoko Shimomura.

Unlike the recently announced Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, where the original game was released in English — though not in Europe — Live A Live has never been officially available outside of Japan until now.

Despite the visual rework, it looks like this version will be quite faithful to the Super Famicom original, so make sure to check it out if you’re interested in Square Enix’s more unique titles.
