Nintendo has released a new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe trailer – the updated version of Mario Kart 8 for Wii U – which shows off the content unique to the Switch version of the game. New characters, courses, modes and gameplay mechanics make an appearance alongside the various different ways you can play it on Switch.
I’ve had a chance to try this out myself but the new handling assist mode makes it so you’re guided onto the right track with little chance to fall off of the stage, making it great for newcomers and children — I’m not sure if this is able to be utilised in online play. New characters include Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl from Splatoon (with three colour variations), King Boo, Dry Bones and Bowser Jr. along with three new vehicles. All DLC released for the original Mario Kart 8 is also included from the get go.
Battle Mode has been re-worked to be a more fast-paced, intense experience and the brand new mode looks like plenty of fun! The new mode sees one team with piranha plants try and eat the blue flags of the other team, whilst the team with the flags do what they can to protect themselves. I’m sure this will provide plenty of laughs, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is going to be loaded with content.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe releases exclusively on Nintendo Switch worldwide on 28th April.
