Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 to be made temporarily unavailable via digital storefronts

Konami has announced that sales of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 on digital storefronts will be temporarily halted starting from later today, November 8th 2021.

This is due to the historical archive footage in each game requiring certain licences, which Konami is currently in the process of renewing.

This applies across all storefronts both games are available on, including PS3 and last year’s GOG release of MGS2. Of course, if you already own digital versions of either game, they will still be re-downloadable during this time — physical copy owners will naturally not be affected at all.

Earlier in the year, VGC reported that, among other series revivals, a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 was in development via external studio Virtuos. However, Konami hasn’t announced anything about the project at this time.
