Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness announced for PS4, Switch, and PC

Spike Chunsoft has revealed that it’s working on an action RPG adaption of the manga Made in Abyss, titled Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness.

Releasing on PS4, Switch, and PC via Steam in 2022, Binary Star Falling into Darkness will adapt the original work’s storyline, while also adding in an additional game-exclusive story.

Story overview via Spike Chunsoft:

Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness‘ original story takes place many days after Riko and Reg depart for the Abyss. The world’s sole remaining, unconquered chasm, the Abyss, is the stage where many adventures are born…and disappear.
Those who appear in these stories are mesmerized by the power of the Abyss and aim for the bottom of the netherworld.
The story about to be told is of the adventures of a nameless Cave Raider in the Abyss…

The manga and subsequent anime series both combined cute character designs with a pretty grim story, which will likely be the case here as well — Famitsu reports that the game has recieved a Cero Z rating, the highest age rating obtainable in Japan.

Binary Star Falling into Darkness’ official website features a handful of screenshots, though they don’t show off much at the moment. The artstyle is similar to the anime at least, and it looks like you’ll have to keep track of various needs like hunger and sleep.

In Europe, Numskull Games will be handling physical versions of Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness, as it has done with most recent Spike Chunsoft releases in the region.
