Monster Rancher 1 and 2 DX announced for December
Koei Tecmo has revealed Monster Rancher 1 and 2 DX for Switch, PC via Steam, and mobile, bundling together two updated versions of the PS1 monster raising games. All versions will launch globally on December 9, 2021.
The Monster Rancher games originally featured the ability to generate monsters from various music CDs. In the DX versions, this has been replaced by a database of CDs featuring songs from around the world — definitely more convenient, if a little bland in comparison.
Monster Rancher 1 and 2 DX also come with various quality of life features, including additional save slots and a high-speed mode for faster monster raising and battling.
This is the first time either game has been made available again in the west since their PS1 debuts. Compared to mainline monster collection franchises, Monster Rancher offers something closer to a simulation rather than a traditional RPG. They’re more than worth checking out if you’re after a different experience — just be prepared to lose a few monsters along the way.
