Many boys’ love fans were disappointed when Witch Boy Magical Piece failed to reach its funding goal last year, but I have some news that should take some of the sting out of that unsatisfying memory. Sekai Project is once again backing a Boys’ Love game, this time an indie visual novel called Monstrous Lovers!
Developed by Man-Eater Games for PC, Mac OS and Linux, Monstrous Lovers follows an ambitious government employee named Christopher Wells. Wanting to be more than your everyday pencil pusher, Wells’ dream is to take an active role in ensuring peaceful relations between humans and monsters. In order to make that dream a reality, Wells decides to transfer to an office in Saint George, a decision which inspires huge trepidation from his friends and colleagues. Saint George has the highest population of monsters, outnumbering the few humans that take residence there. Wells may have underestimated the challenge he has taken on. He certainly begins to have second thoughts after meeting his unusual co-workers!
The protagonist, Christopher is a young government employee whose job is ensuring the peaceful coexistence of monsters and humans. Tiered of being stuck in what he considers an unimportant bureaucratic position, he requests a transferal to Saint George, the city with the highest population of monsters.
The son of Dracula, Vincent dreads the idea of living in his father’s shadow and does everything in his power to antagonise him. An incorrigible flirt, he enjoys using his charm to get what he wants. Unfortunately for Vincent, his complete lack of respect for boundaries tends to get him into all kinds of trouble.
The grandson of the scientist who invented the invisibility formula, his exposure to it has long made his condition permanent – though he’s otherwise human, he’s considered a monster for all means and purposes. Sebastian craves attention almost as much as he enjoys authority. Despite this, he actually has a lot of insecurities and uses his obnoxious personality to hide them.
One of the latest models of androids, Isaac is the result of Maria’s attempts to recreate the process used to make her. However, her faulty method caused him to end up as an awkward mixture of creature and machine. Because even other monsters are weirded out by him, Isaac attempts to fit in by being overly helpful.
The descendant of a family cursed with lycanthropy, Ben was left in charge of his sisters after the death of their parents. Loud and outgoing, Ben always seems to be in a good mood despite his numerous responsibilities. Because he’s very overprotective, he tends to act like an older brother to his friends.
The game has a funding goal of $11,500 on Indiegogo. The game will be released in both English and Spanish and will include an opening song by Aurelio Voltaire. Head to the Monstrous Lovers Indiegogo page to see a breakdown of costs and some fabulous rewards for donators! Make sure to also download the free demo!
