Taking place primarily in the crumbling Barren Temple, the trailer does a lot to reveal just how much has been changed for this upcoming release.
Environments have been updated, attacks are flashier, and the character models have seen some noticeable changes. The protagonist’s younger appearance might not recognisable to fans of Nier Gestalt (the only version that was released in English originally), but Kainé’s new look is certainly different from before.
NieR Replicant ver.1.22… is shaping up to be more than just a simple remaster, but it’s hard to call it a full remake either. We already knew from the “A Decent Amount Of New Info” stream that there’d be some hefty gameplay changes, but the visual updates — and even some rewritten voicelines — at least point to it being an even more thorough update than what it initially seemed.
The full extent of all the changes made in NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… will be revealed when the game releases on April 23 for PS4, Xbox One and PC via Steam.
