Nippon Ichi Software has released some new Yomawari: Midnight Shadows details, giving us more on the gameplay and characters! We’ve had some screenshots of the eerie settings, and now we’re getting a look at some new features. Midnight Shadows looks both cute and creepy – just what you’d expect from a new Yomawari game!
Haru’s close friend. She has a cheerful personality. When coming back from the fireworks display, she gets separated from Haru and ends up wandering about the night town. She has two puppies.
Yui’s close friend. She has a quiet personality, but summons her courage and throws herself into the night town in search of Yui.
A new feature in Yomawari: Midnight Shadows that expands your ability to explore your surroundings. If a ‘hand’ marker appears when you approach an object, it means it can be pushed. This lets you move wooden boxes and create stepping stones, as well as push obstacles out of your path.
While investigating with your flashlight, you’ll sometimes come across things you can interact with. When you find such an item, a question mark will appear above the character’s head. If you get closer, this will become an exclamation mark, signalling you can take action or pick up the item.
The girls can carry ‘lost items’ found along the way, which can be thrown, placed, or worn. These items are an important element in advancing exploration, and may be useful in unexpected locations.
As you progress, you’ll find ‘charms’ you can put on. Charms have a variety of benefits, such as allowing you to hold a lot of pebbles, making your stamina harder to reduce, or enabling you to run faster.
Strange ‘spirits’ wander the streets at night. Many of them are malicious, and will attack the girls if they find them. Get caught by a spirit and it’s the end of the road for you, so you’ll need to understand each spirit’s traits and characteristics in order to escape it! When a spirit is nearby, the girl’s heart rate will rise and the screen will pound with the sound of her heartbeat. You can take cover, hide, and wait until spirits disappear.
A huge spirit that carries a sharp pair of scissors. It makes an ominous noise while endlessly chasing the girls wherever they go.
A spirit who will ambush you on the roadside. He holds a wide blade dripping with blood in his hand.
Ominous babies that come in herds. They pay no attention to the girls and crawl around in a cluster.
