NieR: Automata Release Date, Character Info and TGS Trailers

Square Enix brings us a lot of new info abuot the upcoming NieR: Automata at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. They revealed Japanese release date and showcased the characters as well as brought us a couple of new trailers.

NieR: Automata is a sequel to Nier, a last-gen gem and the last game made by famous and now defunct Cavia studio. Work on the sequel has been brought on by Platinum Games and much of the returning staff, including the director himself, Taro Yoko. Everything we’ve seen so far proves to deliver a solid experience on par or beyond the exceptional original.

The game is due out on February 23rd in Japan on PlayStation 4 and PC. The rest of the world will be getting the game sometime in 2017. 8-4 Will be doing the localization and for now we only know that the game will be slightly altered from the original Japanese version to carter more to western fans. If the change will be as big as in the original (brother protagonist changed into a father figure) remains to be seen.

There has been some new and interestingly some returning characters as well. Namely, Popola and Devola from the original will be returning, as well as Emil. All three of them will be voiced by the same voice actors in from the original game. Emil will lose most of his memory, but we don’t know his purpose yet.

For those that want to read up a bit on the series you can do so with our 13 part Drakengard and NieR retrospective.
