Nintendo has filed for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver trademarks
Nintendo recently applied for new trademarks for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. These each cover 50 different products and services, including video games, naturally.
It’s tempting to get all excited and start fantasizing about a Let’s Go remake for Switch, but there’s no evidence to suggest one is in the works, and the truth is probably far less interesting.
You see, trademarks in Japan tend to expire every ten years. And if you check the date that HeartGold and SoulSilver launched worldwide – yep, it was 2010. The chances are then, that this is just a simple matter of Nintendo taking steps to protect its IP.
I sure do hope I’m wrong though. HeartGold and SoulSilver remain two of the best Pokemon games ever released, and a Switch remake would be fantastic.
Interestingly, and more difficult to explain away: Nintendo also filed a trademark for the Pokemon Entei at the start of the month. Hmm…
