Nintendo Switch 2 announced and unsurprisingly it’s another Switch

Nintendo has finally announced the Switch 2, forgoing any of its usual naming quirks for a simple numbered update.

The Nintendo Switch 2 first-look trailer shows off some of the changes coming to the company’s new console, though the console itself is similar to its predecessor (you do get an extra USB-C port though.)

Most of the changes come with the Joy-Cons, which are now mostly black with just some coloured highlights around the analog sticks and connectors. The tops are more rounded, with the right Joy-Con sporting an extra button at the bottom.

Each Joy-Con also connects via magnets rather than the rails used on the current Switch. Hopefully this will lead to a more secure connection, eliminating the wobble you get via the old system.

Alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement was a brief teaser for a new Mario Kart game, which seems to be going for an increased player limit — based on the starting lines, this latest entry might support up to 24 players at once.

For now, the Switch 2 still only has a 2025 release window. A Nintendo Direct for the console is set to premiere on April 2 2025, with events taking place soon after to let some gamers go hands-on with the console.
