Our 5 Favourite Female Anime Voice Actors

I have always been on the side of subs when it comes to watching my anime, not to say there is anything wrong with dubs of course. It’s all just personal preference and in some cases that preference can be anime specific. I still don’t know which voice I prefer for Goku and Vegeta as I grew up with the English voices, but the Japanese voices are great too! Anyway, I’m here to talk about seiyuu or Japanese anime voice actors and actresses, specifically the latter today. Let’s get into my top 5 favourite Japanese voice actresses!

Miyuki Sawashiro

The best of the best when it comes to the badass, but still sexy, female voice. Sawashiro once voices a lot of smaller and cuter characters before breaking her typecast and voicing characters with a greater range, such as Saeko Busujima. She even voiced some more tomboyish characters as well. My personal favourite performances being:

  • Saeko Busujima – HighSchool of the Dead
  • Kanbaru Suruga – Monogatari Series
  • Celty Sturluson – Durarara!
  • Fujiko Mine – Lupin
  • Katalina – GranBlue Fantasy

Rie Takanashi

Rie Takanashi has played a number of different roles. Mainly she voices gentle and innocent type characters and also some comedic characters. Everyone knows and loves her for her incredible performance as Megumin from Konosuba. My favourites being:

  • Megumin – Konosuba
  • Hime Gotou – Kakushigoto
  • Mash Kyrielight – Fate Grand Order
  • Takagi – Teasing Master Takagi
  • Saitou Ena – Yuru Camp

Hayami Saori

Most well known for her roles playing the good-natured, ojou-type, and sometimes slightly tsundere girls such as Yukino Yukinoshita from My Teen Romantic Comedy, Hayami Saori is most known for her supporting roles. Some of my personally favourite performances of hers would be:

  • Yukino Yukinoshita – My Teen Romantic Comedy
  • Ushiwakamaru – Fate Grand Order
  • Shinobu Kocho – Demon Slayer
  • Yumeko Jabami  – Kakegurui
  • Shoko Nishimiya – A Silent Voice

Shizuka Itou

I would probably say that Shizuka Itou is most well known when it comes to voicing characters that have a more mature or sexy appearance. Whenever you hear an “ara ara~” guessing that it’s Shizuka Itou voicing that character is always a safe bet. Some of my personal favourite performances from her would be:

  • Meiko – Prison School
  • Akeno – Highschool DxD
  • Irina – Assassination Classroom
  • Ryoko Okami – Ookami San
  • Belial – Seven Mortal Sins…

Hanazawa Kana

I can absolutely guarantee that I’m not alone in saying that Hanazawa Kana is my favourite voice actress, this wonderful lady is incredibly popular and you will have most definitely heard her voice. She often voiced the romantic runner-up characters in numerous series, such as Onodera in Nisekoi or Nadeko in the Monogatari series. Especially so after Renai Circulation. She has a wide array of characters though and some of my personal favourites would be:

  • Sengoku Nadeko – Monogatari Series
  • Ichika Nanoka – Quintessential Quintuplets
  • Rize Kamishiro – Tokyo Ghoul
  • Mayuri Shiina – Steins;Gate
  • Yukari Yukino – The Garden Of Words
