Pokémon Go has raked in $1bn during 2020 alone

There are still two months to go, but Niantic‘s Pokémon Go already looks to be on track for its most lucrative year yet.

That’s according to data estimates from Sensor Tower, who have tracked spending on the game across Google Play and the App Store.

You’d think that the ongoing pandemic would have had a negative impact on a game that mostly relies on real world exploration, but it’s actually the opposite. People spending more time indoors, combined with the multiple changes that have been made to accommodate this, means that player spending has instead increased during 2020.

While it may not be as insanely popular as it was during 2016, this data is a clear indicator that Pókemon Go still has a huge fanbase even now. Whether this growth continues into 2021 is anyone’s guess. However, these results do point to a positive future for Niantic and Pókemon Go, as long as they can keep up the momentum.
