Pretty Girls Game Collection 3 is on the way – again with exclusive nude art on Switch
Hot on the heels of the release of Pretty Girls Breakers Plus and the announcement of Pretty Girls Tile Match, Zoo Corporation, eastasiasoft and Funbox Media have confirmed that a third physical release of these excellent casual games is on the way. Pretty Girls Game Collection 3 is coming to PS4 and Switch, once again collecting together four previously digital-only releases, adding exclusive new nude art for the Switch version and throwing in a free stylus to boot.
The new collection will include the original Pretty Girls Breakers, Pretty Girls Rivers, Pretty Girls Speed and Poker Pretty Girls Battle: Texas Hold ‘Em.
We’ve covered all these games previously here on Rice, but if you’re too lazy to click the links we’ve helpfully provided above — we know what people on the Internet are like these days — here’s a summary of what each one is all about.
Pretty Girls Breakers
Moving away from tabletop solitaire games and into the world of classic arcade games, the first game in Pretty Girls Game Collection 3, Pretty Girls Breakers, is a riff on the classic block-breaker formula, challenging you to clear a range of increasingly difficult stages by knocking a ball back into a wall and destroying all its bricks.
Pretty Girls Breakers’ interesting twist on the usual format is that rather than moving a flat paddle around and simply intercepting the ball, you control a character wielding a neon-coloured baseball bat and have to actually swing and strike the ball to return it. Careful timing allows you to place accurate shots, and if you can repeatedly hit the ball with the bright pink tip of the bat, you’ll power it up and temporarily allow it to continuously penetrate blocks until it hits a boundary or an indestructible obstacle.
This is a really fun game, superceded in most ways by its recently released sequel, but still highly enjoyable in its own right.
Pretty Girls Rivers
The second game in Pretty Girls Game Collection 3, Pretty Girls Rivers, returns to the world of mahjong solitaire, but not in its usual form: instead, it adapts a game known as Shisen-Sho, in which tiles are laid out in a single flat layer rather than stacked atop one another. In order to make matches and remove tiles, you must connect identical pairs together with a line that has no more than two turns in it.
While simply clearing the puzzles in Pretty Girls Rivers is quite easy, particularly compared to some of the more fiendish mahjong solitaire arrangements seen in previous Pretty Girls games, a considerable amount of longevity is added by the game’s scoring system, which provides a theoretically “perfect” score for every stage if you can clear it efficiently enough.
This is a fun puzzler that can either be enjoyably chilled out or hectically frantic depending on whether you’re just going for a simple clear or that elusive perfect score.
Pretty Girls Speed
The third game in Pretty Girls Game Collection 3 is Pretty Girls Speed. Speed is a simple card game in which two players hold a deck of cards, and two face-up piles are in the middle of the table. In real time — i.e. without taking turns — players compete to play all the cards from their deck to the middle piles by placing cards that are one higher or lower than those which are already there.
It’s an extremely simple concept that adapts well to a video game, particularly when surrounded by the lovely cyberspace-style aesthetic this game has going on. A wide variety of opponents and a 100-stage challenge mode provides plenty of longevity, too — and the extremely simple mechanics mean that anyone can pick up and enjoy this one.
Poker Pretty Girls Battle: Texas Hold ‘Em
Finally in Pretty Girls Game Collection 3, we have Poker Pretty Girls Battle: Texas Hold ‘Em. Almost identical in execution to Poker Pretty Girls Battle: Fantasy World Edition, found in the previous Pretty Girls Game Collection, Poker Pretty Girls Battle: Texas Hold ‘Em switches up its opponents to have more of a beachside, swimsuit theme and also improves the opponent AI to make it a little more convincing in terms of the way it behaves — particularly when attempting to intimidate your opponents into folding.
The game is a solid implementation of Texas Hold ‘Em Poker, but perhaps doesn’t have quite the same immediacy of some of the other Pretty Girls games. Individual games can go on for quite a while, particularly if you’re not good at poker, and this means the overall metagame of unlocking all the character artwork will take some time. That may be a good or bad thing depending on your outlook!
Pretty Girls Game Collection 3 is set for release on May 12, 2023. Preorder now from Funbox Media’s website.
