Pyra and Mythra joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in March

After teasing a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate announcement yesterday, the game’s next fighter was revealed at the start of today’s Nintendo Direct.

Well, we actually mean fighters, as both Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade 2 are joining Ultimate this March. You’ll be able to switch between the two on the fly, a mechanic that was removed from characters like Zelda and Samus in this entry.

From the trailer, it looks like both of them will have quite similar movesets, though each one has unique special attacks based on skills from their original game.

Pyra and Mythra take up the fourth DLC slot for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Fighter Pass 2, leaving us with just two more characters to revealed this year.

Despite being “more anime swordfighters”, this reveal was still a surprise. Rex was relegated to Mii costume status with Fighter Pass 1, so it seemed like a Xenoblade 2 rep was unlikely at this point. Then again, after the reveals of Sephiroth and Minecraft’s Steve, this doesn’t actually seem too crazy.
