Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio working on games outside of the Yakuza, Judgment franchises

In an interview with Famitsu, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama confirmed that the team is working on new titles that aren’t part of the Yakuza or Judgment franchises (thanks to Gematsu for the English info).

While this could mean that they’re working on a completely fresh IP, there’s also a chance that this is referring to new titles for existing franchises instead. After all, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio developed Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania and co-developed Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown over the last year.

Some small details were also revealed for the Yakuza 8. The game will be set several years after Like a Dragon, once again featuring Ichiban as the protagonist.

The only other mystery at this point is the fate of the Judgment franchise. During the interview, Yokoyama mentions that “The Judgment series is also very important to us.” However, there were rumours in July stating that the series might be ending due to issues with actor Takuya Kimura’s agency.
