Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past! brings cult classic back as a 2D action RPG

Blast Zero, the creative team behind 2D beat-’em-up Jitsu Squad, has revealed Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past! This action RPG brings back almost everything from the cult classic 90s anime, including both the English and Japanese voice cast, and the original author Satoru Akahori.

For those unfamiliar with Samurai Pizza Cats, it’s a western adaption of Kyatto Ninden Teyandee. Similar to Ghost Stories, the western version took a number of creative liberties, changing the overall tone.

Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past! features multiple playable characters, each with their own abilities which can be improved by levelling up and collecting cards. Gameplay also switches between top-down exploration and 2D platforming segments.

You can wishlist the game on PC via Steam now. The release trailer mentions that Blast from the Past! is coming to “all major platforms” too, which should mean Xbox Series, PS5, and Nintendo Switch (or perhaps Switch 2.)
