Second trailer for Scarlet Nexus shown at Gamescom

Gamescom brought us another look at Scarlet Nexus, the upcoming action RPG from Bandai Namco, in the form of a new trailer.

The Gamescom 2020 trailer mainly provides snippets of gameplay footage. There are plenty of flashy particle effects, as various characters show off their psychic abilities, but the most exciting part for me is the chance to have another look at Scarlet Nexus’ brain-eating monsters, known as Others.

The Others are a mixture of organic and inorganic materials, intriguing amalgamations that defy easy description. In the new trailer we got to see a skull headed ram, a flying castle covered in chains and limbs and some leggy, corset-wearing bouquets that put me in mind of Silent Hill 2’s mannequins.

Scarlet Nexus’ monsters were designed by artist Masakazu Yamshiro, new to working in games, but with a body of disturbing artwork that clearly demonstrates why he was chosen for the task.

In case you missed it, here’s the trailer:

Scarlet Nexus will be a cross-gen game, releasing for PS4/Xbox One and PS5/Xbox Series X. The release date is listed as 31st December 2020, but that may well be a placeholder.
