Senran Kagura 2 Deep Crimson EU & AUS Summer 2015 + Physical Limited Edition

That’s right, not only is one of the site’s favourite series, Senran Kagura, getting a new game, but we’re getting it in the EU too, and as a physical edition (though by the looks of it only as part of a limited print run). If you want to skip most of this article and just go ahead and put your name down for one of those we understand, you can pre-order the limited physical copies on Marvelous’ site.

Senran Kagura 2 Deep Crimson is a 3DS game, and is essentially a sequel to Senran Kagura Burst. This time though it’s got enhanced pretty much everything, from improved gameplay to the simple joy of a larger character roster, one that reflects the growth of the series in the last few years. Here’s what Marvelous has to say on the topic of physical releases vs digital releases, from their press release:

Recent European console releases from Marvelous, including Rune Factory 4, have been digital only, while American gamers have been able to secure physical and limited edition versions.

“We know from listening to our fans on Facebook, Twitter and on our forums, that, while many like downloadable games, a lot of them prefer physical product.” noted Jonathan Nevill, Marvelous Europe’s Product Manager.

Digital delivery has allowed Marvelous Europe to bring some interesting and unique titles to the west; games that might not otherwise see a retail release. Franchises like SENRAN KAGURA sell to a really dedicated hardcore audience, typically big fans of Japanese culture, many of whom value the collectability and tactility of physical games and limited editions.

“Some of the more esoteric titles from Japan don’t necessarily sell in the numbers needed to make a big splash at retail,” commented Steven Tarry, Marketing Manager, “But actually, the fans of these games are exactly those who’d love not just a physical release, but a collectable limited edition too. We love digital because we love the direct relationship it gives us with our customers, and we want to deepen that direct relationship with physical products too.”

It’s an interesting read, and it definitely was a shame that Shinovi Versus did not get a physical release in the EU when it did everywhere else. But, at least Senran Kagura Burst did before that.

SENRAN KAGURA 2: Deep Crimson is the western title for ‘SENRAN KAGURA 2: Shinku’ as released in Japan, August 2014. This new game continues directly from the events of SENRAN KAGURA Burst – and closely follows the story and rivalries of the Hanzo & Hebijo Academies.

Features:

Pair Battles – For the first time ever, two shinobi warriors from opposing academies must fight together, and the dual character combo system allows for spectacular and devastating joint attacks.

Improved graphics and stellar audio -The graphical improvement from ‘Burst’ is dramatic, with full 3D environments, improved animations and a better framerate! This is combined with original Japanese voice-overs to create a gorgeous experience all-round.

Local & Nintendo WiFi Co-op mode – For the first time in the series, two players will be able to join forces and play the story or special missions together via ad hoc multiplayer or online.

Improved Dressing Room – The dressing room is stocked with hundreds of items, and this time up to two shinobi can be present in the dressing room at once! Also, for the very first time in the series you can pose the girls in a variety of positions, and even pose them in real life environments using the Nintendo 3DS’ built-in camera!

There’s a number of limited editions available from the Marvelous store. There’s limited prints of the physical game just by itself for £34.99 (available at an “early bird” £24.99 price for the first 50 units) as well as a Happy Boobs Edition for £49.99, a Shinobi Collector’s Edition for £74.99, and an Ultimate Shinobi Collector’s Edition for the same price, but limited to 50 units.

Physical Edition

The Happy Boobs Edition comes with the game, a 2-disc soundtrack, Hanzo & Hebijo stickers, fold out poster, and a special box.

Happy Boobs Edition

The Shinobi editions are all pre-order exclusive. It comes with an even more special box, a wall scroll, a 2-disc soundtrack, an A2 poster, the emblem stickers, an oppai mouse mat, and a certificate of authenticity.  The only difference between the regular and Ultimate version of the Shinobi editions are whether or not the certificate of authenticity is signed or not. Whether a certificate of authenticity is really valid unsigned or not I don’t know, but it’s worth trying to get into the limited 50 if you plan on buying it, as there’s no price difference.

Ultimate Shinobi Collectors Edition

I’m out of breath listing all this stuff. But I’m glad I did. Are you excited? I know I am!

Want to catch up on the series with Senran Kagura Burst? Luckily for you it was released physically, and is available on our store both on its own and as part of a Life and Hometown Edition which comes with a t-shirt and a lenticular! We also now sell the t-shirts on their own if you just want to look stylish.
