Simultaneous Worldwide Release Confirmed for Granblue Fantasy Relink and Versus

We’re very, very excited about Granblue Fantasy: Relink and Granblue Fantasy: Versus over here, so it’s wonderful news to hear both are getting a simultaneous worldwide release! Thanks to Twinfinite‘s interview with director Tetsuya Fukuhara, we’ve got a bunch more details about both titles too!

Here’s a rundown of some important things we found out:

Granblue Fantasy has a huge cast of characters available in the mobile game, so it’ll be interesting to see who makes it into both the console titles. On this matter, Relink is a story-driven RPG, so it’ll primarily include the main story characters in Granblue Fantasy, such as Gran and Katalina. Relink will be a good introduction to the key cast members.

As Versus is a fighting game, the process for choosing which characters are included will be different and will primarily focus on characters that would be fun to play as. This is a good opportunity for characters that aren’t as relevant to the main story but have a strong fanbase to be included. While details can’t be disclosed at this time, there is definitely potential for DLC characters to increase the number of characters that can be included.

Versus is definitely going to run at 60 fps. While that’s the goal for Relink as well, it might have to settle for 30 fps depending on the final visuals.

Accessibility is being taken into account for both games. Versus will stand out from other fighting games in how it treats beginner players, and winning won’t rely on chaining combos, making it easier on players who are not so well-versed in fighting games. Arc System Works also desired to have a less combo-heavy fighting game, and together they’ve worked out a system where even one strike will have meaning.

For people who are into fighting games, however, there will be an extra layer of complexity concerning timing and trying to predict the opponent’s next move. Versus will also have a story mode full of RPG content, so playing by yourself without competing will be very enjoyable. Relink won’t be departing too much from a standard RPG and is something more accessible to Granblue Fantasy fans, as there will be more people familiar with Granblue Fantasy‘s systems, but accessibility is still important.

Gran and Djeeta will remain voiceless protagonists in Relink, while Gran will appear in Versus with a personality based on the one he has in the anime.

Job changes are not present in the games due to the huge amount of assets that would be required to implement them. While it wasn’t planned for Versus anyway, it was considered for Relink but ultimately decided against as they thought having only part of the job system wouldn’t be satisfying for fans. Fleshing out characters like Katalina, Rackam, and others, who will play very differently from the protagonist, has been prioritised instead.

The localisation is being done fully in-house, with the localisation of the mobile game feeding into the quality of translation for both console titles.

After having to delay Relink once already due to not wanting to compromise on quality, they’re holding off giving another release date and will give more information when they’re absolutely sure they can meet the date. Versus is due to release in 2019.

Both Granblue Fantasy: Relink and Granblue Fantasy: Versus are due to release worldwide simultaneously.

Spread the love!
