Sony’s E3 Press Conference Has Something For Everyone

Sony’s E3 press conference is the final live E3 conference this year. A lot is at stake for PlayStation. Are they going to be able to satisfy both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita fans, while still spending enough time on their new system, the PlayStation 4?

Starting off with the PlayStation Vita, Sony said that more than 85 titles will be launched by the end of this year. Some of the games we can look forward to for PlayStation Vita are: Batman Arkham Origins, Counter Spy, Destiny of Spirits, Doki-Doki Universe, Killzone Mercenaries, Tearaway, God Of War HD 1 and 2, Final Fantasy X and X-2, Flower, Dead Nation and finally The Walking Dead.

Next Sony talked about the PlayStation 3. Sony showed off the critically acclaimed The Last Of Us, which will be launching this Friday.

Puppeteer

Batman: Arkham Origins

Sony then revealed the PlayStation 4 console. The PlayStation looks really slim and has a sharp design.

PlayStation 4

Sony unveiled a new IP called The Order: 1886, brought to us by Ready at Dawn, the same developer that made God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War: Ghost of Sparta and Okami.

Killzone Shadow Fall

Drive Club

Infamous Second Son

Knack

Killzone Shadow Fall, Knack and Drive Club will all be released on the launch of the PS4, while Infamous Second Son will be released in Q1 of 2014. This means early adopters will have a ton of games to play.

Quantic Dream has made tech demo to show off the power of the PlayStation 4. The Dark Sorcerer is rendered completely in-engine.

Transistor is a new indie game from the developers of Bastion and is coming in 2014.

Sony also showed a ton of other indie games coming to the PlayStation 4. Don’t Starve is made by Klei Entertainment, the developers of Shank and Mark of the Ninja. It is an randomly generated, open world adventure game. Mercenary Kings is made by the developers of Scot Pilgrim. The team Young Horses managed to port a working version of Octodad: Dadliest Catch in 4 weeks. Secret Ponchos is made by Switchblade Monkeys and is a mix of a shooter and fighting game in a western setting. Ray’s the Dead is a stealth action game made by Ragtag Studios. Outlast is a firstperson horror game by the developer Red Barrels. Oddworld New and Tasty is a remake of Oddworld Inhabitants coming on the PlayStation 4. 17bit games made Skulls of the Shogun and is making a side-scrolling open-world shooter called Galak-z.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced and it will be called Final Fantasy XV from now on. The in-game visuals are absolutely stunning. The game also seems to feature a system where you can throw your sword and then teleport to it.

After so many years of waiting Kingdom Hearts 3 was also announced.

While Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag may not be a PS4 exclusive, it was first shown running live. The game had some technical issues during the presentation where it crashed at the end of a scene.

Watch Dogs also had a live gameplay video, demonstrating more of its hacking mechanics and impressive graphics .

2K games showed off some of its NBA 2K14 graphics.

Sony announced a new partnership with Bethesda Softworks showing off world premier of The Elder Scrolls Online for the PS4.

Mad Max

PlayStation 4 will support used games. Nor will it require an online connection in order to play.

Sony made a video how to share your games with your friends.

Sony showed the world premier of Destiny. The game allows additional people to join your game during the level.

PlayStation 4 will support background downloads while you play games, cross-game chat and will allow users to share their gameplay videos. All these features are available at launch. Playstation Plus Membership will go across to the PS4, so now with one subscription you will be able to get free games the PS3, PS4 and Vita. PS4 members will get Drive Club, Don’t Starve, Outlast and Secret Ponchos during the first year of the PS4 launch free on PlayStation Plus.

Gaikai will launch in 2014, starting with the US. PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita will allow streaming of games. PlayStation 4 will launch for $399, €399 and £349. The console will have a 500GB harddrive, which like the PS3 can be swapped out easily. PlayStation Eye is sold separately. The PlayStation Eye and additional DualShock 4 controllers each costs $59/€59. The console will also be region free, allowing you to import your favorite games.

After Microsoft showed off a total of 20 titles during its press conference, I wasn’t expecting for Sony to reveal that many games. Thankfully I was wrong and Sony had a massive line up of various titles with a ton of them being new IPs. With PS3, PS4 and Vita games announced, spanning from console exclusives to indie games, Sony has something for everyone. PlayStation 4 also has no DRM for disk-based games and will allow PlayStation Plus users to immediately take advantage of their instant game collection. After all these blockbuster announcements I can safely say Sony’s E3 press conference is the best one I have seen in a while.
