Square Enix announces its Tokyo Game Show lineup

With the Tokyo Game Show just around the corner, Square Enix has released information on its full lineup of 20 games, so we know exactly what to expect come the developer’s livestream.

Slightly disappointingly, there are few mainline sequels for Square Enix’s big franchises – it seems fans hoping for a glimpse of a Final Fantasy XVI will have to wait a little longer. But it’ll be fun to see more of the Kingdom Hearts rhythm game Melody of Memory, and the lack of major established games should allow new titles room to shine. Both the action game Babylon’s Fall and the 3D platformer Balan Wonderworld have the potential to be pretty interesting, I reckon.

Noticeably, there are a lot of mobile titles in this year’s show. About half of what’s been announced is available on iOS. Amongst these are a number of Dragon Quest spin-off games, including Dragon Quest Walk, an AR game that looks ever so Pokemon Go.

Following in the footsteps of every other gaming event in this very strange year, 2020’s Tokyo Game Show will be an entirely online affair. It last four days in total, beginning September 24th and ending September 27th.

More details on all of Square Enix’s upcoming announcements can be found on the company’s website.
