Star Ocean: First Departure R modern console ports get limited physical release

Limited Run Games has announced that the PS4 and Switch versions of Star Ocean First Departure R will get a physical release later this year.

Pre-orders run from September 12 to October 26, 2025 via the Limited Run Games website. As with many physical releases for LRG, there doesn’t seem to be a release window at this time.

Three different versions will be offered. You have the game on its own for $39.99, the $79.99 Steelbook Edition (which also includes a poster), and the Ultimate Edition for a whopping $199.99. The Ultimate Edition includes:

Star Ocean: First Departure originally released for the PSP in 2008, remaking the Super Famicom RPG into something closer to its sequel Star Ocean: The Second Story. It was the first time the original Star Ocean had been made available officially in English, with First Departure R offering new character portrait and dub options.
