Suda51 Teases The Silver Case Ward 25 BitSummit Announcement

We loved The Silver Case Remaster. It’s the first chance we’ve had to play the game in the west since it came out in 1999! 18 years is a long time, but not all games are even that lucky. Its mobile only sequel, The Silver Case Ward 25, has also been trapped in limbo for a while. But Suda51 has hinted at announcement very soon!

The teaser image has the phrase “Kill the Life”, which was the tagline for The Silver Case Ward 25 when it originally released, a sort of variation of “Kill the Past”, which was The Silver Case’s. Bit Summit is an indie games expo in Japan, and Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture are kind of indie now I suppose? He’ll be there, and hopefully we’ll hear more about this soon.

The Silver Case Ward 25 was a 2005 mobile exclusive game that continued the story of The Silver Case. Structured in a similar way to the original, it featured multiple chapters, all of which focused on a character from the original game. Even in Japan, it’s never been available on consoles.

Suda51 has previously indicated that he’s very interested in remastering Ward 25 in addition to The Silver Case. It seems that to him it all feels very much part of the same project. It’s true that The Silver Case has influences and nods in his later work, especial Flower, Sun, and Rain — but none as direct a follow-up as Ward 25.

The bonus chapters included in the PlayStation 4 version of The Silver Case Remaster both close out the story more cleanly, and open up sequel hooks that seem to tie into Ward 25. These should be heading to the PC version of the remaster soon too. There definitely seem to be wider plans for The Silver Case going forward than simply leaving it at a basic remaster of the original game. As a mobile game it would seem like a lot of work to scale it up to a larger console experience, but even modernising the PlayStation game was a big task.

The only thing we can do now is wait for May when hopefully more light will be shed on the possibility of a remastered version of The Silver Case Ward 25!

Spread the love!
