Super Smash Bros Ultimate Guide

Arguably the biggest game of this year, we felt it would be madness not to put together a Super Smash Bros Ultimate Guide. In here you’ll find everything from character unlocks, to easter eggs and general hints and tips.

As we work though this Super Smash Bros Ultimate Guide over the weeks and (probably!) months, feel free to suggests tips and tricks in the comments below.

So, with our further ado, onwards!

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Guide character unlock

HOW TO QUICKLY UNLOCK ALL CHARACTERS

Firstly, this workaround only works in Smash mode. If you want to unlock all characters in World of Light, you’re going to have to put in the hard yards, starting with Kirby. That said, this is still a quick way to get your roster looking a bit healthier!

1/ Head into Smash Mode and Change Stock to 1, Choose Level where you can jump off.

2/ Doing so will end the match – ‘NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES!’

3/ Now defeat Challenger and you’ll unlock the character.

4/ You should also note that there is a 10 minute cool-down timer between unlocks, but you can work around this by quitting the game and then re-opening it as it resets the timer.

5/ Lastly, there’s also a ‘distance travelled’ milestone metric that you need to reach to unlock characters, so if you complete a match and you don’t unlock a character, start a match on something like Hyrule Castle and run around for a good while, then end the match!

MAKE SURE TO USE A SPIRIT OF A STRONGER TYPE ADVANTAGE

PRIMARY SPIRIT

If you’re finding some of the World of Light Spirit Battles difficult (and some of them ARE pretty tough) then you’re going to need to pay attention to the coloured icon you see on the character portrait on the map. (it’s in the top right corner).

This signifies the spirits alignment in Red, Blue or Green. This system works in the same way as rock, paper scissors:

Attack (Red ) is stronger than Green

Grab (Green) is stronger than Blue

Shield (Glue) is stronger than Red

Selecting a Primary Spirit of the opposing alignment can give you the edge in battle!

SUPPORT SPIRIT

Lastly, you can also increase your advantage by selecting the correct support spirit. So, say you have a Spirit Battle condition of Stricky Floors, you can select a Support character that can completely nullify that disadvantage in battle – helping to even the score.

HOW TO MAXIMISE YOUR REWARDS IN SPIRIT BATTLES

However, just to throw a spanned in the works, Nintendo have cleverly worked in a bonus in terms of rewards. If you intentionally create a weaker team for a Spirit Battle (basically making the challenge harder for yourself) you will earn greater rewards from your victory!
