Survival RPG Zanki Zero Announced for PS4 and Vita

A new Spike Chunsoft project called Zanki Zero was revealed in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu. Following eight survivors in a world in ruins, Zanki Zero is described as a ‘survival RPG’, though just what that entails we’ll have to wait and find out!

Many members of the development team for the Danganronpa series will be working on the game, including Yoshinori Terasawa and Takayuki Sugawara, which is very encouraging for a game about survival. Some brief story details have been released, detailing what led to the world’s ruin:

It took God seven days to create the world.

It took humanity only one to destroy it.

Everyday until yesterday sank into the sea.

We don’t know yet why the world was destroyed, or why we are left.

Ruins drift about what is left of the Earth.

Buildings, houses, utility poles.

Cars, traffic lights, asphalt.

The remains of modern civilisation are now ruins drifting in the sea, surrounding the island where the main characters live.

The magazine also contained an interview with Producer Yoshinori Terasawa and Director Takayuki Sugawara. Here are the highlights:

– The project has been being planned since before the release of Danganronpa 2. It’s a post-apocalyptic survival RPG set in bright ruins. The eight main characters can all be said to be the protagonist, and every chapter will have a different focus. There also some energetic elderly people who will play a big part.

– There’s no specific switch between field exploration and battle, as the two seamlessly transition into one another. It’s an RPG with strong action elements.

– The main enemies are animals that have started adapting to the environment after the world was destroyed. You’ll get materials and ingredients from defeating them.

– There’s a sheep mascot character, but it’s more like Monomi than it is Monokuma.
