Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization Preview

I got my hands on Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization recently and, as you may know, I’m a big fan of the series who is eagerly awaiting the full release. I was thrilled to be able to be amongst the first in the UK to play the upcoming game and although it was a brief demo, it showed that the series of games has come a long way.

By brief, I mean this demo is roughly 10 minutes long and is one boss battle so don’t expect me to go into too much depth here, but I liked what I played. The biggest takeaway is the removal of auto-attack and whilst it keeps its MMORPG elements, you now have more control over what your character does – I don’t feel as if I’m waiting around waiting for my cooldowns to kick in whilst my character slashes away on their own now, allowing for a tighter experience that’s a vast improvement upon Lost Song. The hot keys have been tidied up and they’re easier than ever to locate and activate, so those who were overwhelmed in the past by the vast amount of abilities and buttons to use in battle should have a more comfortable time with Hollow Realization.

Each game has notably improved on its visuals too and whilst it may not be one of the best animated games on PS4, although it has tough competitive with the likes of Naruto which features very expressive and detailed 3D models, it still looks better than Lost Song. The 3D models have plenty of colour and look a lot like their anime counterparts, although they can fall a little flat when it comes to expressions as evidenced by the brief chat that prepared us for the battle. The art style and UI are fantastic, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of Hollow Realization. Again, like the others, this game will only feature Japanese audio which is a shame as the English Dub is great, but I understand it’s still a niche game where many are satisfied with the original Japanese voice-over.

This is a very brief Hollow Realization preview solely because there isn’t a whole lot to say, but I did want to mention that if you’re looking forward to it, then you’re set for what is shaping up to be the best Sword Art Online game yet and I’m excited for more. You can expect to see a review from us for Hollow Realization soon!

Spread the love!
