Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Secures the Final EVO 2017 Slot

For the first time EVO held a vote for charity to see which game would fill the ninth and final EVO 2017 slot in the fighting game event’s line-up. The winner has been revealed as Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, with $71,690, with 1,487 donors. You can assume this will be the brand new, just re-released version.

Pokken came in a close second with just over $62k raised, and from there there was a big drop. Killer Instinct had seemed promising early on in the voting, but it didn’t really last. The hype is indeed pretty real for Marvel at the moment, with it just being re-released on the current generation of hardware and the surprise announcement of Marvel vs Capcom Infinite — so it might not be that much of a surprise that it came out on top.

It’s a shame more of the left-field entries didn’t get much traction. ARMS really impressed us at the Switch preview event, but there’s still time for that game to shine once the Switch is in everyone’s hands. Hopefully there will be more opportunities like this in the future.

Still, it’s great to see Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 bouncing back. For many having the chance to play it on current hardware was just a dream, let alone having a brand new entry in the works. Maybe by this time next year we’ll see Infinite mainlining EVO.

Spread the love!
