Vestaria Saga Demo Available Now on Steam, First Impressions
As mentioned previously, indie SRPG Vestaria Saga is all set to come to Steam in 2019. As of today, the game’s demo is available from its Steam page, and it’s well worth a look! Brief though it may be, the Vestaria Saga demo is plenty enough to give you a feel for the game, both in terms of story and gameplay.
The Vestaria Saga demo is brimming with nostalgia and charm. You can certainly tell from the creator of Fire Emblem, and is the closest thing to a new Fire Emblem you can hope for until Three Houses gets a demo of its own or either title releases next year.
You control a variety of units as you set about quelling bands of brigands and mustering up enough manpower to eventually fight back against the empire that has plunged the country of Vestaria into war. From the amount seen in the demo, the story is exactly as you’d expect, filled with political intrigue and relationships tried and tested in the flames of a vast war.
With Mayumi Hirota in charge of character designs, as she was for both Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 and TeaRing Saga, the game looks as much like an old-school Fire Emblem as it feels, and that’s no bad thing!
The demo covers the first battle, and it’s nice to see it’s one with an Arrive objective, rather than making you simply rout all enemies straight off the bat. It’ll take longer with the game to get fully accustomed to who everyone is and which of the many kingdoms they fight for, but just the short time with them in the demo is enough for some of the stronger personalities to shine through and to make me believe they’ll be a cast easy to grow fond of.
It’s not much in terms of length and scale, but the Vestaria Saga demo provides a nice shot of strategy in advance of the game’s full release next year and I’m eager to see more of it.
