“Yuki Yuna is a Hero” Visual Novel Coming to Vita

Yuki Yuna is a Hero just began airing last month as part of the Fall 2014 anime season. A visual novel for Windows based on the series will be included with the December DVD and Blu-Ray release of the anime, but the game, Yūki Yūna wa Yūsha de Aru: Jukai no Kioku (lit. Yūna Yūki is a Hero: Memories of the Tree Sea) is now also coming to PS Vita. The Japanese release date is set for February 2015.

Yuki Yuna is a Hero is directed by Seiji Kishi, an anime director perhaps best known for his work on Persona 4: the Animation, Persona 4: the Golden Animation, and Danganronpa: the Animation. Or Angel Beats! which was actually pretty cool too, though I watched that on a late evening after university as part of a society I belonged to. We may have watched two episodes, I don’t remember. Unlike the video game stuff, however, Yuki Yuna is a Hero is an original anime series. However, the link between manga, anime, and video games remains strong as Yuki Yuna is a Hero is getting a visual novel release currently confirmed for both a Windows and PS Vita release.

Yuki Yuna is a Hero is a Magical Girl anime that mixes slice-of-life with some cool anime fantasy action. Similarly the video game will mix both visual novel and action game elements together. It’s unclear when or if there will be a release in the west, but the anime is currently available to western audiences via Crunchy Roll, so it’s not impossible for it to gain traction over here.
