Evo Community Series revealed

Sony has announced the Evo Community Series, a collection of over 120 tournaments across the globe.

Of these tournaments, three will be officially hosted by PlayStation from June 10 through August 3, offering up a total of $74,000 (roughly £52,000) in prize money.

All three tournaments are PS4/PS5 only, meaning that there are no titles from other platforms such as Killer Instinct or Smash Bros.

These are also separate from the full Evo Online event, which runs August 6-8. Evo Online 2021 includes Guilty Gear Strive, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, and Tekken 7.

2020 was a rough year for fighting game tournaments, Evo included. Last year’s event was initially going to be moved online, before being cancelled entirely due to allegations against its CEO, with Sony eventually acquiring Evo earlier this year.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Evo Community Series performs. There are some great fighting games being featured over the next few months, but some aren’t exactly know for having great netcode — something that is kinda important for online-only events.
