Please Tell Me! Galko-chan creator Kenya Suzuki arrested over child pornography

Kenya Suzuki, the creator of Please Tell Me! Galko-chan, has been arrested after importing child pornography from Germany.

Suzuki imported six books containing child pornography during late 2020, with Japanese police finding another 40 while searching his home in Funabashi. He has admitted to obtaining these books — which go against Japan’s Customs Act — stating that he “desperately wanted to acquire nude photos of foreign children that cannot be acquired in Japan” (thanks to Anime News Network for the English translation).

Friends of Suzuki had reported earlier in the month that he missing, though he was eventually found last week.

It remains to be seen how severely Kenya Suzuki will be punished by the law. Rurouni Kenshin creator Nobuhiro Watsuki was arrested back in 2017 for possessing child pornography, but got away with a simple ¥200,000 fine (roughly £1,334).
